After seeing posts about wasting time looking for things to watch, I had the idea to create a menu bar app that would alleviate the problem of constant scrolling. It allows users to select a genre type and then recommends the best movies based on that.
Swift, SwiftUI, MVVM, UserDefaults, WindowGroup, AppKit, StoreKit, Swift Concurrency, Foundation, and SF Symbols were used to build Rando using Xcode. Dependencies like SwiftyJSON and LaunchAtLogin were installed using the Swift Package Manager.
The menu bar interface was designed in Figma with the goal of making it easy to read while providing the necessary information. I gathered data for more than a thousand films, developed the app, and tested it on several Macs using TestFlight.
Rando received over 60,000 organic impressions in its first month of release and has since attracted thousands of users every day. With the App Store Optimization on point, I was pleased to see Rando achieve such a wonderful result.
