Hello, I'm Ata Kahveci

I work as an iOS engineer and UX/UI designer, creating thoughtful experiences through one-on-one collaborations and workshops.

Hey! That's me! Learn about my background story, experience, international experience, freelance journey, or hobbies. I truly believe in the power of words to build relationships, so I'm glad you're here.

Summary

Combination of engineering and design.

Thanks to my study background, I combine design and development from an engineer's standpoint, providing accessible and beautiful experiences while keeping the architecture clean, scalable, and maintainable.

Currently, I'm building the next generation of photo editing experience at Superly Studios with a small but strong team. Previously, I focused on my freelancing career, offering memorable experiences to amazing teams and individuals.

Outside of my full-time responsibilities, I collaborate with a select group of freelance clients to build exceptional products and solutions. I help products convert with design that reads as well as it looks.

I'm passionate about building and designing native experiences with Apple's HIG, creating unique, accessible, and visually appealing products. I also love following the iOS development community on Twitter!

Background story

Pursuing my creativity.

As you can see, I put up colorful illustrations throughout this section. It wouldn't have been me if I hadn't included them!

Since my early childhood, I've always done something creative, whether it was a hobby or a project. I've always liked creating things, learning new things, and striving to be better than the day before.

My creative side and consistency led me to pursue hobbies that grew into decades-long experiences in photography, videography, and music. With years of experience in composition and understanding color, I know what makes a picture or scene feel and look beautiful to a casual viewer.

Today, I'm very grateful to be working on apps and bringing my creative elements to my work. I connect my multidisciplinary experiences with product development to create the best solutions, emphasizing functionality and directness over abstract components that hinder a seamless user experience.

Experience

7 years and counting.

With 7 years in information technology, my knowledge ranges from ML and CV to web, game, and mobile development.

I have 5 years of iOS development (8.4k+ hours) and over 6 years of designing experience. With a background in information systems engineering, I'm able to create products that meet the highest quality standards.

Since I began programming in 2016, design has always been my passion. I pair my creative and intuitive design skills with my logical and analytical thinking to solve problems. In the past few years, I've designed and developed responsive websites and mobile apps, both in teams and as a freelancer.

Nowadays, I'm comfortable with the complete app development lifecycle. I can lead a team, share knowledge, and identify critical issues and their associated solutions. My most detailed experience can be found on LinkedIn, and a more focused version can be found in my resume.

International experience

Three countries and five languages.

I lived my whole life adapting, learning new languages, and experiencing new cultures. I'm excited about my next journey!

Despite a rocky start in life, I'm still following my lifelong goals and dreams. Throughout my life, my international experience has been an integral part of my journey and has shaped me into the person I am today.

I was born and raised in Central Asia, close to the Chinese border. I have been exposed to different cultures and languages, and each has given me invaluable insights into the world around me. I'm now based in Istanbul, where I came to study engineering in a city where Europe meets Asia.

I was accepted to my university with an excellent SAT score and completed all of my research in English to receive my bachelor's degree. My first language is English, and I speak four languages. I began learning Swedish in August 2022, and since then I have loved the language. Check out my Duolingo streak!

Freelance journey

Investing in myself.

I chose to work freelance to allocate time and gain more experience than I would've gained in a traditional way. (Mija!)

When you freelance, you get to learn much more about how businesses are run. My journey began three years ago, thanks to COVID, when I provided beautiful web experiences to amazing people.

Going full-time independent allowed me to invest more time in developing my skills as an iOS engineer, learning new technologies, and constantly expanding my knowledge. Without my decision to focus on freelancing, I would not have the financial independence, knowledge, or project experience that I do today.

I enjoy meeting new people and hearing new perspectives. Reach out if you are building something that promotes sustainability, people's well-being, or aims to make a positive impact. As a freelancer, I'm highly professional and detailed in dealing with client jobs. Learn about what I do and how I work!

Hobbies

The joy of progression.

I find joy in the little things, like a beautiful sunset, music, nostalgia, and everything else that happens on a daily basis.

My desire to improve is one of the little things in life that brings me joy. Whether I'm playing a video game, picking up the guitar, snapping a photo, or filming a scene, I love seeing my progress as I go.

I've been doing photography for a long time, editing photos, and capturing moments that feel like paintings. I've also shot two short films with a strong interest in cinematography! For me, it's now all about capturing moments that convey a narrative for the audience to connect with.

Aside from cameras, I've been playing guitar since late 2012. I enjoy listening to rock music, and you can almost always find me listening to Arctic Monkeys! In my free time, I love exploring cities, cooking, and watching indie movies. If you have any movie suggestions, I'm all ears!

Send me an email if you want to learn more about me, have any questions, or even get tips on how to make a photoshoot!
